This touches a quiet truth: how we withdraw first, as if retreat were wisdom. Shame wears the robes of practicality, calling self-erasure โ€œsense.โ€ The ending leaves a small lamp lit, though, and that's not to instruct, but to remind us that the dark was never total.

You said it so perfectly, Franky! ๐Ÿ’›

This dialogue really nails something. The concept of "preemptive sulking" and rejecting yourself before anyone else can is painfully accurrate. I've watched friends do this in so many contexts beyond dating. Its interesting how shame disguises itself as practicality. The mood lights ending is perfect too, just the right amount of hope without being preachy.

Shame is a nasty animal, and itโ€™s persuasive. Grumpy has a nonconventional way of going after the things people share, but the preemptive sulking is very real. And certainly something weโ€™ve all done before.

The mood lights. It started with a safety light, just one. Then I thought about my car, which has this wild ambient lighting inside. You can change the colors and settings. Anyway, itโ€™s a whole thing. His wheels needed these. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh. I failed to mention. His name is MALIK?

Youโ€™ve been watching Shrinking, havenโ€™t you?

Ordinary Therapist's avatar

No. Still havenโ€™t watched it. Why?

The Therapy Within's avatar

He is a therapist on the show. Very empathetic.

Iโ€™ve been told a few times about this show. I am not a fan of one of the actors in the show, so Iโ€™ve stayed away but itโ€™s seemingly like I might need to give it a watch. People have said that Grumpy feels like one of the characters.

โ€œFreud is watchingโ€ absolutely sent me.

โ€จAnd then I stayed. This felt like therapy that doesnโ€™t try to impress anyoneโ€ฆ just sits there, says the quiet bits, lets the joke fall apart when it needs to.โ€จ

Thatโ€™s the truth of it. Thanks for this, Jenn.

Thank you for staying and reading. ๐Ÿ’› Grumpyโ€™s therapy is, wellโ€ฆ itโ€™s not soft, but itโ€™s always honest. What she lacks in charm she makes up for with humor and care. But also, there is something quite charming about her. ๐Ÿ˜‰

OMG. Sheโ€™s fantastic. You know I love me some Grumpy. I consider your disclaimer and concur. I am throughly entertained.

While I sit on my sofa after a class (purely hobby and social) with my โ€œI am not responsible for my facial expressionsโ€ t shirt.

That I might wear below the camera in my work. ;-)

Grumpy is certainly more a spitfire in this episode. Iโ€™ve missed her.

Haha! I love that youโ€™re such a fan of Grumpy! She has more of her bite back this time. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Love the t-shirt. This should be standard therapist uniform! Haha!

Thank youโ€ฆ I think? Iโ€™m choosing to take this as a compliment and not a note that I need to shower. ๐Ÿ˜‰
